H.E. Ambassador Demeke Atnafu participated and addressed the Global Dialogue on International Higher Education organized by Assam Down Town University held on 16 February 2024 at ITC Mauriya, New Delhi.
Addressing the dialogue, Ambassador elucidated the impressive dimensions of higher education in terms of expansion, education quality and relevance, by increasing access, ensuring equity, improving quality and management.
He further underscored that the country boasts more than 53 public and 7 private Universities, 1400 Technical and Vocational Training Colleges with annual enrollment capacity of 500,000 and a million students respectively.
Underlining education and capacity building as pillars of Ethio-India cooperation in education sector, Ambassador thanked the Government of India for offering more than 400 training slots under ITEC programme and 55 scholarship under ICCR programme annually, being fully utilized by Ethiopia. India enjoys a reputation of being 2nd home for students from Ethiopia, he said.
To enhance, bolster and further deepen cooperation and partnership with higher learning Institution, he expressed the strong desire and readiness of Ethiopian Universities to forge and establish collaborative relationships and partnerships with Indian Universities in areas such as faculty and student exchange, joint research and training program.
